SUNRISE TOWNSHIP
Sunrise Township is located in Chisago County, Minnesota, on the banks of the Sunrise and St. Croix Rivers

Sunrise Township is the largest township by area in Chisago County, covering 45.7 square miles. Most of the township’s population of approximately 2,000 people live on rural acreage or farms. A major feature of the township is its eastern border of approximately 10 miles of St. Croix River frontage, most of which is within Wild River State Park. The north and south branches of the Sunrise River converge in the southern portion of the township.
At the center of the township is the historic village of Sunrise, which straddles the Sunrise River about a mile south of its mouth at the St. Croix River. The village of Sunrise has a church, pottery shop, river tubing venue, ice cream shop, bed-and-breakfast, a major manufacturing enterprise and residences. Public facilities within the village include a park on the riverbank, ball field, museum, community center and cemetery.
The community of Kost is a historic village located in southern Sunrise Township. The business center has disappeared and Kost is now comprised of a church, cemetery and homes. Kost Dam County Park is located on the Sunrise River about a mile south of Kost.
